The economic challenges of the past couple years have been hard on all businesses, retail stores among them. We've seen headlines when major chains have closed their doors, filing bankruptcy, or closed stores, letting people go, but we haven't heard much about all the small businesses that are no more.

Many of the small stores we sold our products to were unable to survive these challenging economic times, sadly. Many that have survived are just getting by.

This charming bookstore is owned and operated by people who love books! Manager Debbie and the rest of the Off the Beaten Path Staff actually read many of the books they sell (what a concept!). They also support local writers and artists and art in the Steamboat Springs community.

Reverand John is our neighbor, but even if he weren't we could not help but like him. A shop of special treasures, including unique jewelry made by by artist-owner, Rev John. He mans the store himself, so it can be good to call ahead. When not in the store, Rev John might be found marrying couples on Hollywood Beach, or he might be climbing the hills of South Carolina, Tenessee or Wyoming searching for crytals and fossils.

Though as yogis we confess that we cringe to see the hanging animal skins at Sticks and Stones, it is the lingering scent of incense and good energy from all the crystals seems to be what stays with us after we leave. This oceanfront giftshop is a feast for the eyes with artisian selections from local artists (including our 10 Minutes Stress Relief CD and Sandboxes), personally crafted jewelry creations by Reverand John, plus imports from around the world.
